Motorcycle Burned After Man Killed by Security Forces in Sunsari

Kathmandu. Locals have burned a motorcycle in Captainganj, Ward No.-3 of Devanganj Rural Municipality in Sunsari. An angry mob set fire to a motorcycle at the house of the ward chairman of Ward No.-3 after 30-year-old Omprakash Mehta died from a security force's bullet. An official from the District Police Office, Sunsari, told Ratopati that efforts are underway to apprehend those who set the fire.

Mehta died from a security force's bullet while controlling a clash between Hindu and Muslim communities. His body has been kept at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar. A security official from Sunsari said he was shot once. Two more people are seriously injured in the incident. They are also said to have been shot. The two seriously injured are undergoing treatment at Virat Nursing Home.

Following the Captainganj incident, the local administration has imposed a curfew in four market areas. The District Administration Office, Sunsari, has stated that an indefinite curfew order has been issued from 7 AM on Monday in the Harinagara, Ghutaha, Captainganj, Ghuski, and Devanganj market areas.

Similarly, the local administration has issued a prohibitory order in two rural municipalities, prohibiting more than five people from gathering. Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire has issued a prohibitory order in Harinagar Rural Municipality and Devanganj Rural Municipality of Sunsari.

An official from the Armed Police Force said that 10 security personnel from the Armed Police Force were injured while controlling the clash. He said, 'One person required six stitches on his head.' DSP Chandra Khadka of the District Police Office, Sunsari, told Ratopati that 10 people, including Police Inspector Rakesh Rai, were injured. The dispute between Hindus and Muslims started over playing loud DJ music at a temple in Captainganj. Security officials say the dispute escalated further after a flag of the Muslim community placed on an electricity pole in the area was removed and a Hindu flag was placed there.
