Karnali Government to Get New Chief Minister Today

Surkhet. Karnali government will get a new Chief Minister today. The deadline to claim for the new Chief Minister has been set for 5 PM today.

Province Chief Yagyaraj Joshi had called for a Province Assembly member who can secure a majority with the support of two or more parties represented in the Province Assembly to submit their claim for the Chief Minister post by 5:00 PM today.

Province Chief Joshi had made the call in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal. Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel had resigned from his post on Saturday.

CPN Parliamentary Party leader Mangal Bahadur Shahi will stake claim for the new Chief Minister. Preparations are underway for that, CPN sources said.

Shahi had gone to Kathmandu on Sunday. After meeting with top leadership, he returned to Surkhet on Tuesday morning by an 8 AM flight. With the formation of a provincial power equation between CPN UML and Nepali Congress at the center, Karnali had fallen to the Congress's share.

Meanwhile, UML Parliamentary Party leader Yamlal Kandel also went to Kathmandu on Sunday and returned on Monday. However, there has been no formal meeting between the leaders of the two parties so far.

According to sources, there is a schedule for a discussion between the leaders of the two parties around 11 AM. Shahi is currently discussing with the MPs of his party. Shahi is set to be appointed as the 5th Chief Minister of Karnali today. Earlier, Yamlal Kandel had resigned as Chief Minister on Saturday.

Information has not yet been provided to the Province Chief's office for the claim of the new Chief Minister.

"Today is the last day, but no information has come so far," said Information Officer of the Province Chief's Office, Manmaya Kaucha.
