Corruption case filed against Nepal Telecom MD Paudel and Finance Secretary Marasini
KATHMANDU, Oct 2: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has filed a case of corruption against Sunil Paudel, the Managing Director of Nepal Telecom, and Madhu Kumar Marasini, the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance.
The Commission filed the case against them after they came to the conclusion that officials including Paudel and Marasini were involved in corruption during the purchase of the National Payment Gateway.
The National Information Technology Centre's former Chairman Sanjay Sharma, former Executive Director Pranita Upadhyaya, former Deputy Director Safal Shrestha, former Assistant Director Ramesh Pokharel, former accounting officers Nim Bahadur Oli and Ram Bahadur Budha and computer engineer Ram Sharan Gayak have been made defendants in the case.
According to the Commission, Paudel and Marasini had purchased the 'National Payment Gateway' for 232 million 758 thousand and 77 rupees without preparing the infrastructure. The National Payment Gateway (NPG), which was purchased 6 years ago, is still not in use.
