President Paudel authenticates Citizenship Bill

KATHMANDU, May 31: President Ram Chandra Paudel has authenticated the Citizenship Bill. President's legal advisor Baburam Kunwar informed Ratopati that the President authenticated the Citizenship Bill on Wednesday morning.

Before this, former President Bidhyadevi Bhandari had stopped the Citizenship Bill authentication disagreeing with the Bill and had sent it back to the Parliament mentioning concerns of 8 points.

Both Houses passed the bill for the second time and sent it to President Bhandari on September 5, 2022. Although there is a constitutional provision to verify within 15 days, she stopped it. Paudel, who became the president on the 9th of March, certified the citizenship bill at the request of the government after 9 months. The government had requested President Paudel to certify the Citizenship Bill On May 26.
