Flood Risk in 29 Districts Due to Rising River Levels

Kathmandu. The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that there is a moderate risk of flash floods in small rivers flowing through 29 districts today. As per the flood forecast bulletin issued by the division at 8 AM, the flow of major rivers is under control. As of this morning's measurement, the flow of Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, Mahakali and their tributaries, including Kankai, Kamala, Babai, Eastern Rapti and Western Rapti rivers, is below the alert level. However, the water level will significantly increase in small rivers flowing through Kathmandu Valley's three districts Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur, including Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Kavrepalanchok, Makwanpur, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Lamjung, Kaski, Tanahu, Syangja, Rukum East, Rukum West, Mugu, Humla, Bajura, Bajhang, Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Doti and surrounding districts. According to the division, there is a moderate risk of flash floods in these areas. The division has warned that the flow in some small rivers flowing through Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces may increase suddenly tomorrow. Similarly, the division estimates that the flow in some small rivers flowing through Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces may increase suddenly the day after tomorrow.
