SC to pass verdict on Oli’s writ petition against 14 lawmakers including Madhav Nepal on April 3

KATHMANDU, March 13: The Supreme Court is scheduled to pass a verdict on the writ petition filed by Chairman of CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, against the 14 lawmakers including Chairman of CPN (Unified Socialist) on April 3, 2022.

A joint bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Kathiwada and Dr Kumar Chundal gave the order to this effect on Sunday.

Hearing of the writ petition filed by Chairman of CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, is now to be conducted in a final hearing.

Accusing the lawmakers including Madhav Kumar Nepal of acting against the party's policy and direction, the CPN-UML had expelled as many as 14 lawmakers .

Speaker of the lower house, Agni Prasad Sapkota then refused to take action against the expelled lawmakers, stating that they had already formed another political party.

KP Sharma Oli, chairman of the party, had then filed a writ petition against the Speaker Sapkota, the Election Commission and 14 expelled lawmakers demanding action against those 14 lawmakers and scrap legitimacy of the CPN (Unified Socialist) among others.

The party has also accused Speaker Sapkota of taking an unconstitutional move.

The UML has been obstructing the House process and has maintained it will continue unless its demands are addressed.
