Donor agencies should coordinate with local level to run programmes: Minister Pandit

Kathmandu–Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lal Babu Pandit has said that donor agencies could not run their programmes without coordination with concerned authorities.

While inaugurating an 'international conference on boosting capacity of local level' organised by the Local Development Training Academy here today, Minister Pandit said, "Donor agencies and international non-governmental organisations should coordinate with the capacity building programme at local and state levels to run any programme related to orientation."

The government was at work to encourage and enhance efficiency of employees and people's representatives at local levels, he said, stressing the need for it to use its full authority and bring expected development results.

Likewise, the Academy's executive director Pit Kumar Shrestha said the conference aims to share operation of local level being practiced by foreign countries.

The meeting will also focus on policy level arrangement, challenges and solution seeking surfaced in the way of building capacity of employees and people's representatives at local level, he said, adding that working papers on capacity building, policy and rules and challenges at local levels would also be presented.

Some 100 people's representatives and employees of the Kathmandu Valley have been participating in the conference.
