Annapurna Base Camp Trekking Route Upgrade Begins

Kaski. The upgrade of the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trekking route in the Annapurna region has begun. With the increasing attraction of domestic and foreign tourists, the route is being made safer, more organized, and tourist-friendly to facilitate trekking.

The Annapurna Rural Municipality has stated that the trekking route from Ghandruk Deurali to Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC) in Kaski is being upgraded and tourist infrastructure is being built to develop the Annapurna region as an internationally safe and attractive trekking destination.

Stone stairs are being constructed, the trekking route is being widened, safety structures are being built in risky areas, and necessary tourist infrastructure is being developed in the Deurali-ABC section, which is considered sensitive due to the risk of snowfall, landslides, rain, and falling rocks, informed the Rural Municipality Chairman Bishnu Bahadur KC.

According to him, the work is being carried out with a budget of Rs 4.5 million in the current fiscal year with joint investment from the Nepal Tourism Board Gandaki Province and Annapurna Rural Municipality.

Chairman KC expressed confidence that the upgrade of the trekking route will further enhance the attraction of the Annapurna region, a major destination for Himalayan tourism. "ABC trekking has seen an increase in domestic and foreign tourists. Annapurna has global importance. Therefore, we are building the trekking route to provide more convenience to tourists visiting this region," he said.

The Rural Municipality has stated that the infrastructure being built in the remote area above 3,500 meters above sea level prioritizes the safety of domestic and foreign tourists reaching Annapurna Base Camp.

Ward Chairman of Annapurna-11, Him Bahadur Gurung, expressed confidence that the trekking route improvement will make trekking safer, easier, and more organized. "The improvement of the Deurali-Machhapuchhre Base Camp trekking route will be convenient for tourists. In addition, it will help local hotel businesses, transportation services, marketing of agricultural products, and tourism-related economic activities," he said.

The Annapurna massif, Machhapuchhre, and Himchuli mountains, with their magnificent views, make ABC one of the most popular Himalayan treks in Nepal. It is believed that after the completion of the trekking route upgrade, travelers will receive safer, easier, and quality services.

The Rural Municipality has stated that it will also prioritize plans for upgrading other trekking routes, rest stops, information centers, and tourism infrastructure development in the coming days.
