Bridge construction on Diktel-Gaighat road still in limbo

Khotang– Construction of a bridge at Regmitar of Sapshu river in Khotang has not gained pace despite getting the extension of the contract for third time.

The 65-meter long bridge over the Sapshu river as part of Diktel-Gaighat section along the Sagarmatha Highway is still in limbo.

Nearly half of the works for the construction is over but gabion wall is not constructed yet. This section is the short route between Diktel and Gaighat.

As the construction is not over to connect two sides of the river, the passenger vehicles are opting for risky drive through the river.

The locals complained that the bridge construction was delayed after the flood swept a pillar early this year. The contractor is unnecessarily delaying it, they argued.

However, contractor at Devsayar and Kanchharam JV, Karna Khatri, informed that only two percent of the works was left to accomplish the bridge. "We're working for side clearance and painting, and would finish it soon for inauguration."
The undertaking with the cost of Rs 60 million was begun 18 months back. It deadline is extended time and again, but it is not complete, the locals showed anger.
