Four Arrested in Birtamod for Blackening a Woman's Face

Birtamod. Police have arrested four people involved in tying a young woman's hands to an electric pole and smearing black soot on her face in Birtamod, Jhapa.

They are accused of mistreating the 21-year-old woman due to old grudges and have been taken into custody along with the materials used in the incident.

According to the District Police Office, Jhapa, this incident occurred on Jestha 29th at around 6:30 PM on the road leading to Rajgadh in Birtamod Municipality Ward No. 2. Local people had taken 21-year-old Sabina Rajbanshi, a resident of Birtamod 2, into custody, tied her hands to an electric pole, and smeared black soot on her face. Upon receiving information about the incident, a police team from the Anarmani Area Police Office rescued the victim and took the involved individuals into custody.

Those arrested include 20-year-old Sabina Murmu, 25-year-old Swastika Murmu, 18-year-old Samir Mardi, and 19-year-old Puja Basnet, all residents of Kankai Municipality Ward No. 8, Jhapa. Police also recovered a container of black mobil used in the incident and 16 pamphlets of various types from their possession.

Sabina Rajbanshi, who was smeared with black soot, is undergoing treatment at Birtacity Hospital in Birtamod. Police stated that her condition is currently normal.

All four arrested individuals have been kept at the Anarmani Area Police Office, and further investigation and legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway, informed Police Inspector Vijay Chauhan, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Jhapa.
