Khanal sees lack of promptness in rescue works

Surkhet - CPN (UML) senior leader Jhalanath Khanal has accused the government of dillydallying to launch rescue and relief distribution works when the people in hills have been hit by landslides and the Tarai people by floods.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Press Chautari Nepal, Surkhet chapter in Birendranagar today, took the time to accuse the government of not working at a war-footing level to provide relief to the affected and rehabilitate the displaced. " Tarai suffers frequent inundations due to river dams constructed by India along the Nepal-India border."

The main opposition senior leader called on the government to start diplomatic negotiations with the Indian Government to immediately open dams' doors on the border and address the inundation problem permanently.

On a different note, he said the UML was not in favour of the constitution amendment, calling on the government to be sensitive towards the demands of Dr Govinda KC who has been on a hunger-strike for the past 21 days.
