Information Ministry urges media to disseminate fact-based news about disasters
Kathmandu - The Ministry of Information and Communications has called on all mass media, telecommunications service providers and government bodies to collect fact-based reports and disseminate them, at a time of crisis caused by floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains.
In a press statement today, the Ministry has urged all mass media to disseminate fact-based news and reliable information about the losses of lives and property by the water-induced disasters, bearing in mind the country's present adverse situation.
Likewise, media has been urged to coordinate with the district-based disaster management committee, regional administration and security committees while reporting and disseminating the disaster news.
All the government offices in the disaster-hit districts are too requested to cooperative with media persons assigned for the information collection in the field and provide them necessary support.
The radio, FM stations and television channels have been asked to give top priority to the dissemination of information about alternative arrangements made in the disaster-affected areas and the time required to repair the damaged structures.
More, the Ministry thanked the Nepal Telecom and telecommunications services providing companies for a launch of the SMS services meant for sharing information about disasters and alerting the people to possible consequences.
