Prime Minister Balen Shah Appeals for Calmness and Social Harmony Following Sunsari Incident

Kathmandu. Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah, in an appeal made late Tuesday night regarding the incident in Dewanganj, Sunsari, urged everyone to exercise restraint and maintain social harmony.

Making his views public through Facebook, he expressed condolences to those who lost their lives during the incident and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

He mentioned that he empathizes with the grief of the victim's families and stated that the government must soon ensure justice, compensation, and legal action against the culprits. Shah noted that the death and injury of citizens due to security forces' gunfire is not a normal incident and emphasized that an impartial investigation must be conducted and action taken according to the law. He also expressed confidence that the government would seriously review the incident and prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

He stressed that the government must take effective steps to ensure that the victims' families and the injured feel justice has been served. Before that, he urged everyone to stay away from anger, revenge, and provocation. 'Man's first duty is to save a human life,' he wrote. 'I urge again, let us remove any lingering resentment, anger, fear, and rage from our hearts. Let us not participate in any act that provokes or causes provocation. Let us remain safe and calm. Let us love and respect each other. Let us maintain social harmony.'
