Gustaal Vihar and Prathamshree Vihar Inaugurated in Patan

Kathmandu. The inauguration of the restored Gustaal Vihar and Prathamshree Vihar has been jointly inaugurated in Gwit Tole, Patan, Lalitpur. 

At a program organized on Tuesday, Member of Parliament Jagdish Kharel, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan, and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava inaugurated the heritage.

At the program, distinguished guests unveiled the inauguration plaque and participated in traditional rituals and ceremonies. Officials from the Central Project Implementation Unit (Building and Housing) under the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction of the Government of Nepal, representatives of the local community, and officials from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu were present on the occasion.

The Vihars have been reconstructed at a cost of approximately 120 million Nepali Rupees under the post-earthquake reconstruction grant assistance of the Government of India. The Central Project Implementation Unit (Building and Housing) of the Government of Nepal implemented this project, with the Indian National Trust for Arts & Cultural Heritage providing design and project management consultancy services.

Speaking at the program, Member of Parliament Jagdish Kharel praised the resilience of the local community. He stated that the preservation of ancient living heritage like Gustaal Vihar is essential and expressed gratitude to the Government of India for its support in the restoration.

Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiribabu Maharjan praised India's contribution to the reconstruction of cultural heritage in Lalitpur and other districts of Nepal. He also lauded the support of the local community in this endeavor.

Similarly, Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava discussed the deep cultural relationship between Nepal and India. Stating that India has been continuously supporting the restoration of historical heritage, he said that these reconstructed structures are a lasting symbol of shared heritage and friendship between the two countries.

The Government of India has assisted in the conservation of 30 cultural heritage sites in 8 districts of Nepal through its post-earthquake reconstruction assistance. In addition, India has also provided assistance in the reconstruction of 50,000 private houses in Gorkha and Nuwakot, 85 educational institutions in 8 districts, and 133 health facilities in 11 districts.
