23 Students Detained Outside Tribhuvan University's 67th Anniversary Event

Kathmandu. Police have taken 23 students into custody outside the venue of Tribhuvan University's 67th anniversary program for protesting against the Chancellor, who is also the Minister of Education and Sports, Sasmita Pokharel.

Among those arrested are Tribhuvan University Student Union Vice-Chairman Sanam Wali, TU Student Union Secretary Hikmatkumar Budha, Shankar Dev Campus Akhil Coordinator Dinesh Regmi, Kulbahadur Budha, Dambersing Airi, Prakash Sanjel, and others.

They have been kept at Kirtipur Police Station. TU Student Union Chairman Deepakraj Joshi informed that police took them into custody when they tried to enter the Tribhuvan University establishment day program venue. Joshi said, 'TU tried to prohibit entry. We protested saying that the university was provided with a meager budget. Entry was prohibited to the program where the Chancellor, who is also the Education Minister, was attending. We object to this.'

The students carried placards demanding the implementation of meritocracy, the abolition of the provision where the Prime Minister is the Chancellor and the Education Minister is the Vice-Chancellor, and an end to political interference in the university.

Six individuals who were protesting outside the program venue where the Education Minister was participating, chanting slogans like 'Nepo Baby Murdabad', have been taken into police custody.
