Rare Tumor Successfully Removed From Elderly Woman's Neck Artery

Kathmandu. A rare tumor originating from the nerves around the artery of the brain in an elderly woman has been successfully treated surgically at Norvic International Hospital. A team of doctors led by Norvic Hospital's neurosurgeon Dr. Pawan Bahadur Bhandari successfully operated on a 71-year-old elderly woman for a rare tumor originating from the nerves around the artery of her brain. According to Dr. Bhandari, the patient had a large swollen lump (tumor) on the left side of her neck.

Dr. Bhandari was accompanied in the surgery by Dr. Purushottam Baniya and Dr. Sameer Aryal. Similarly, a medical team including Dr. Suresh Lamichhane was involved in anesthesia.

The doctors removed the patient's tumor through a 7-hour surgical procedure on Asar 25. "The tumor on the patient's left neck had been growing for years," said Dr. Bhandari. "We have removed her tumor and successfully treated her."

Due to the tumor, the patient had increasing problems such as respiratory issues, unconsciousness, intermittent tingling in parts of the body, and dizziness when shaking her head.

According to the patient's relatives, a small lump of flesh was noticed on the woman's neck 21 years ago. Although surgery was planned twice at other hospitals, the treatment was not carried out due to various reasons.

According to Dr. Bhandari, a highly vascular tumor originating from the left vertebral artery in the patient's neck was observed. This is a very rare tumor originating from the nerves around the artery of the brain. The surgical procedure for such a tumor is considered complex due to the origin, location, and surrounding structures of the tumor.

The hospital stated that the woman's treatment was possible due to the high-level operation theater, ICU, treatment technology, and the expertise of the specialist medical team available at Norvic.
