US House Passes $95 Billion Budget Framework Focused on Iran Military Operations

WASHINGTON D.C. The US lower house House of Representatives passed a $95 billion budget framework on Wednesday, focusing on military operations against Iran. This proposal, approved by a narrow margin, will now go to the Senate, where its approval remains uncertain.

The budget package, passed by a vote of 216-214, allocates $73 billion for the armed forces and intelligence agencies. This amount is specifically designated for ongoing military and security operations against Iran.

Similarly, $12 billion has been allocated to provide relief to farmers affected by President Donald Trump's trade policies. An additional $10 billion has been set aside for nationwide election-related programs.

Although this provision is linked to the new voting restriction plan that Trump sought to advance, his broader 'Save America Act' has not received the necessary political support.

This proposal, seen as a key legislative priority for Republicans ahead of the November midterm elections, is currently only an initial budget framework. If approved by the Senate, Republican lawmakers in the House of Representatives will prepare a detailed legal draft in the coming months.

It is expected that a strategy will be adopted to pass the bill based on a simple majority through a special budget process, without the generally required 60 votes in the Senate.

House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that this decision paves the way for Republicans in Congress to implement two key objectives: securing the American electoral system and further strengthening national security.

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmaker Rosa DeLauro criticized the budget, stating that it provides financial resources to continue the war against Iran. She said that American citizens want to see a reduction in the prices of essential goods and services such as food, housing, healthcare, childcare, and fuel, rather than more open, expensive, and long-term wars in the Middle East.

Rising living costs and persistent inflation in the United States are among the major political issues for the upcoming midterm elections, making the debate over this budget proposal even more sensitive.
