US and Iran Exchange Threats Amidst Escalating Military Tensions

Tehran. As military attacks between America and Iran continue, the war of words between the leaders of both countries has also intensified. Washington and Tehran have warned each other of even harsher responses to any attacks. This has further increased regional tensions. 

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reacted strongly through social media platform X. He said - 'Our defense principle is clear, an eye for an eye.' He wrote in his post that any attack on Iran's infrastructure or national assets will be met with a powerful and decisive response. He also mentioned that Iran is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and national security.

Araghchi's reaction came after a new warning from US President Donald Trump. Trump had said on Wednesday that if Iran targets any ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz, America will destroy one of Iran's bridges or power plants in retaliation for each incident. 

Earlier, Trump had also warned that Iranian civilian infrastructure could be targeted. In an interview with Fox News last week, he said that all of Iran's bridges would be destroyed until Iran comes to the negotiating table.

However, Trump's statement has also been criticized, as intentionally targeting civilian infrastructure is considered a war crime under international humanitarian law.

Citing a senior Iranian official, the semi-official news agency Tasnim reported that if America attacks Iran's bridges or power plants, Iran will retaliate by attacking important infrastructure in the entire region. According to the official, energy structures and other important infrastructure connected to American interests could also be potential targets for Iran.

Iranian military officials have also reiterated their stance of exercising their sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz. Concerns are growing that any military tension in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping routes, could directly impact international energy supply, oil prices, and the global economy.
