US and Saudi Arabia Sign Historic Nuclear Deal

New Delhi. The United States and Saudi Arabia have signed a historic nuclear (nuclear) agreement. This agreement will help Saudi Arabia develop a peaceful purpose civilian nuclear energy program.  

According to the US Department of Energy, this is a peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement, which will open the way for large participation of American companies in Saudi Arabia's nuclear energy sector. The full details of the agreement have not been made public.

According to American media, there may be a provision in the future that allows Saudi Arabia to enrich uranium on its own land. Enriched uranium can be used to produce nuclear electricity, but the same technology can also be used to build nuclear weapons. According to experts, if Saudi Arabia is allowed to enrich uranium, this will be the first time America has given such permission. It has been warned that this could increase the risk of nuclear proliferation in the already unstable Middle East region.

The US Department of Energy has stated that along with the main cooperation agreement, a bilateral security agreement has also been signed. According to the department, these two agreements will create a legal basis for a partnership worth billions of dollars that will last for decades. In addition, the objective is to advance nuclear non-proliferation and the strategic and economic interests of both countries.

The Saudi government has stated that this agreement is an expansion of the long-standing cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector. It has also been mentioned that this cooperation has been further strengthened since the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Washington last November. According to American media, President Donald Trump has not set a condition for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to recognize Israel for this agreement.

This agreement has been made public amidst the growing military tension between the United States and Iran. There are US military bases in Saudi Arabia, which Iran recently targeted. In addition, Yemen's Houthi rebels had announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia two days ago.
