Four-Wheeled Vehicles Barred from Sharda Barrage Due to Rising Mahakali River Levels

Kanchanpur. Movement of four-wheeled vehicles has been stopped at Sharda Barrage.

Vehicular movement has been prohibited at Sharda Barrage after the water level in the Mahakali River rose above the alert level.

The restriction was imposed today morning after the water flow in the river exceeded one lakh cusecs, under the direction of Deputy Superintendent of Police Tek Bahadur Rawat of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur. As per the measurement at 1:30 PM today, the water level of Mahakali reached one lakh twenty-four thousand 454 cusecs.

"Due to the rise in the water level of the Mahakali River, the operation of four-wheeled vehicles has been stopped at Sharda Barrage", he said, "The water level has increased in the afternoon measurement compared to the morning."

The water flow in the Mahakali River has increased significantly due to continuous rainfall in the hilly districts of Sudurpashchim.

The local administration has urged the residents of the coastal areas around the Mahakali River to exercise high vigilance, citing the possibility of further increase in the river's flow due to ongoing rainfall in the Sudur hills.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in most parts of Sudurpashchim Province for the next few days. The department has urged caution due to the possibility of sudden floods in small rivers, streams, and rivulets.
