Two Arrested in Chitwan National Park for Alleged Rhino Poaching

Chitwan. Two individuals have been arrested today from Chitwan National Park.

Police have arrested Khadganarayan Chaudhary and Tek Bahadur Magar on suspicion of entering the park with the intention of killing the world's rare, one-horned rhinoceros.

Sixty-eight-year-old Khadganarayan Chaudhary of Setipani, Middle-West Municipality-1, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) and 52-year-old Tek Bahadur Magar of Phurkedanda, Ichhakamana Rural Municipality-5, Chitwan were publicly presented today.

Chitwan National Park Information Officer Abinas Thapamagar informed that both were arrested from Brahmsthanghat, Middle-West Municipality-3, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East).

A gun called a cartridge, one piece, and ammunition for it were recovered from their possession. During a search of the house of the arrested Chaudhary, seven pieces of wildlife products appearing to be tiger teeth, a gun called a Mauser, one piece, ammunition, and 136 Indian 500 rupee notes were recovered, Thapamagar informed.

An investigation has been initiated against both arrested individuals under the case of attempting to kill protected wildlife, the one-horned rhinoceros, and buying and selling wildlife products, the park informed. Both have been charged in the Nawalpur District Court seeking punishment as per Section 26 (5d) and Section 26 (1) of the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, 2029.
