Birgunj Road Expansion Resumes: Structures Demolished

Birgunj. Work has started to remove the remaining structures in the Ghantaghar to Alakhiyamath section in Birgunj. The Road Division Office, Hetauda has started work with renewed priority on the road expansion campaign of the main road section Ghantaghar-Alakhiyamath of Birgunj Metropolitan City.

The Division Office has issued a notice stating, "Protection work of 25-25 meters on the right and left from the center line of the road in the section from Sirsiya Miteri Bridge to Bahudari Gandak Chowk of Tribhuvan Rajpath under this division has started. Therefore, we request to immediately vacate shops or other structures within that area, not to stay inside houses, and to remove belongings from inside the houses."

The office has also informed all concerned through the notice not to accommodate guests in hotels, lodges, and guest houses. Furthermore, the Division Office requests cooperation in the road boundary protection work by removing belongings from damaged houses within 15 days.

For the expansion of Birgunj's main road, the Road Division Office had been actively carrying forward the campaign since last Baishakh 6. In the first phase, approximately 1,200 structures falling within 25-25 meters on the right and left of the main road were removed using bulldozers.

As most house owners did not remove their structures, the Road Division Office resumed the second phase of the campaign by deploying bulldozers again from Ashadh 20. In this process, road expansion work has been carried out in the sections from Gandak Chowk to Ghantaghar and from Miteri Bridge to Alakhiyamath, the office stated. After that, the campaign was temporarily halted for a few days to facilitate the smooth completion of the fourth Rath Yatra of Gahwamai.
