High-Level Team Assesses Flood Risk and Embankment Status in Rautahat

Rautahat. A high-level monitoring and inspection was conducted on Monday evening to assess the condition of the Lalbakaiya River embankment and potential flood risks in Maryadpur, Molaipur Municipality-1, Rautahat.

As flood and erosion risks increase every year during the monsoon, local residents have been urged to exercise high vigilance, regularly follow official weather information, and relocate to safer places if the risk escalates.

The monitoring included Dhiraj Prasad Patel, Member of Parliament from Rautahat Constituency 3, CDO Dinesh Sagar Bhusal, Molaipur Municipality Mayor Rina Kumari Sah, Rautahat Police Chief SP Sitaraam Rijhal, Chief of Armed Police Force Nepal No. 11, Hajminia, SP Ramhari Adhikari, Deputy Director of National Investigation Kumar Budhathoki, representatives from the Irrigation Office, and chiefs of other security agencies.

The team conducted an on-site observation of the embankment's current condition, potential erosion areas, and possible damage from floods, and discussed risk mitigation measures. It has been reported that an agreement was reached to enhance the effectiveness of erosion prevention and preparedness work by coordinating among the relevant bodies.

The Bagmati River in the eastern part of Rautahat and the Lalbakaiya River in the west become aggressive every year during the rainy season, repeatedly causing erosion and inundation in surrounding settlements and arable land. Therefore, such joint monitoring conducted during the active monsoon period is viewed as a positive step from a disaster management perspective. However, locals have been demanding timely advancement of long-term embankment strengthening and effective protection works.
