Department Issues Directive to Control Illegal Trade

Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection has issued a directive to control illegal trade and business in the market. Issuing a notice, the department stated that its serious attention has been drawn to illegal business activities taking place on physical and digital platforms.

According to the department, complaints and grievances have been received that essential daily consumption food, beverages, and clothing products such as unlabeled, low-quality, adulterated with non-food items, and smuggled goods are being sold and distributed in the market. The notice states that such goods are being traded not only through physical stores but also through online (digital) means.

The notice issued by the department states, 'The Consumer Protection Act, 2075 and the Regulations, 2076 have ensured the consumer's right to receive quality goods and services. Such acts contrary to the law are fully punishable.'

The department has directed all producers, importers, transporters, storer (warehouse keepers), and sellers to conduct business and trade only by fully complying with the responsibilities and conditions prescribed by law.

The department has also warned that if acts contrary to the law are found during monitoring, strict action will be taken in accordance with the prevailing laws.
