MP Urmila Aryal Expresses Concern Over Issues Facing Domestic Industries, Tea Exports

Kathmandu. Speaking at a meeting of the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the National Assembly, MP Urmila Aryal expressed serious concern over the problems faced by domestic industries. She raised serious questions in the committee about the negative impact on the country's economy due to the recurring problems and obstacles in tea exports.

Speaking at the committee meeting, MP Aryal expressed dissatisfaction over the frequent problems in tea exports. She said, 'There are always problems with tea exports, is this our weakness? Either there is a problem in the place where it was exported before? Or is there a lack of quality in our production?' She emphasized that although the quality of Nepali tea is good, the concerned bodies should pay attention to removing the obstacles created during exports.

Speaking at the meeting, she said that discussions are necessary on the condition of industries that have been closed for some time and ways to bring them back into operation. She said that government-owned industries like Hetauda Cement Industry should be made competitive in the market and the government should provide more support.

MP Aryal mentioned that the current state of our economy is worrying and said that the government's programs towards becoming 'self-reliant' have not been effective. She said, 'It seems like our plan itself is a bit flawed. We are more into consumption habits, and work towards becoming self-reliant is not seen.'

She emphasized that the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee should find solutions to the problems by 'pin-pointing' the root cause of the problems and finding solutions. She urged the government through the committee to prepare a 'progress report' on what improvements are needed in which industries within the next few months in coordination with the government and implement them.
