Former Home Minister Sudhan Gurung Committee Submits Report to Government

Kathmandu. A committee formed to study and investigate public concerns that arose during the tenure of former Home Minister Sudhan Gurung and thereafter is preparing to submit its report with opinions and suggestions to the government today.

Committee member Achyutmani Neupane informed that the committee is about to submit the report after completing tasks including taking a statement from Gurung and studying his asset details.

“We have completed the investigation including taking a statement from former Home Minister Gurung and on matters like asset details,” Neupane told Ratopati. “As the work assigned to the committee has been completed, we will submit the report today itself.”

According to him, the report presents opinions with clear conclusions based on evidence, whether the person is guilty or innocent.

The Council of Ministers, in its meeting on Baisakh 28, formed a three-member committee chaired by former High Court Justice Achyutprasad Bhandari. The committee includes Director General of Audit Shobhakant Poudel and Joint Attorney Achyutmani Neupane as members.

The committee was given the responsibility to study and investigate the facts of the public issues related to former Home Minister Gurung, who is also a Member of Parliament, and submit a report to the government within 15 days.

Gurung had become controversial after the issue of having a business partnership with businessman Deepak Bhatta became public. He then resigned from the post of Home Minister on Baisakh 9. He was in the responsibility of Home Minister for only 26 days.

Questions were raised about Gurung's purchase of shares in Liberty Micro Insurance and Star Micro Insurance, which are under the custody of the Department of Investigation of Money Laundering. Pressure mounted on Gurung.

When questions were raised about the source of the funds, Gurung has been claiming that he bought shares worth approximately 5 million rupees by taking a loan.
