Major Highways Affected by Floods and Landslides Across Nepal

Kathmandu. Traffic on the main highways has been severely affected due to floods, landslides, and road repairs in various parts of the country. 

According to the updated details as of 11 AM on Saturday, some road sections in Kosi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces have completely stopped vehicular movement, while in some places, one-way traffic is barely operational.

The biggest impact of the obstruction is in the Panchthar district of Kosi Province. Due to the flood and landslide that occurred on Jestha 8, various sections of the Mid-Hill Highway within Yangwarak Rural Municipality of Panchthar have been completely obstructed. The highway is completely blocked due to landslides in Oyam Bazaar and Rijalbhir in Yangwarak Ward No. 3, and floods in Dobhan of Ward No. 2.

Similarly, the road in Bokhim, Bhojpur Municipality-5, Kosi Province, which has been obstructed since Jestha 12 due to floods on the Mid-Hill Highway, has been made one-way with an alternative route. The Kosi Highway is also operating only one-way due to a landslide in Naya Basti, Makalu Rural Municipality-3, Sankhuwasabha.

Meanwhile, the Khulekhani road section, known as the short route to enter the capital within Bagmati Province, has been closed for about a month. Due to the road concreting work that started on Jestha 15 in Mahalaxmi, falling under Indrasarovar Rural Municipality Ward No. 2 and 4 of Makwanpur, traffic has been stopped on the Khulekhani-Phakhel-Humane-Pharping-Kathmandu road section until the concreting work is completed.

Similarly, vehicular movement has been stopped on the BP Highway road section running through Khurkot-Nepalethok-Katunjebesi of Kavrepalanchok, considering the risk of potential floods.

Roads in Gandaki Province are also not immune to landslides. Landslides in various places on the Beni-Jomsom road section connecting Mustang via Myagdi district have made travel risky. The road has been made 'one-way operational' after clearing landslides that occurred on Jestha 16, Jestha 7, and Jestha 12 in Jalathale of Annapurna Rural Municipality-3, Magdi, Tallo Baisari of Raghu Ganga Rural Municipality-3, and Upla Baisari of Raghu Ganga-1, respectively.

Similarly, the road section on the Siddhartha Highway in Galyang Municipality-8, Karadi, Syangja, has also been operating only one-way due to a landslide that occurred this morning.

Furthermore, in Humla, a Himalayan district of Karnali Province, traffic has been stopped due to the risk of potential landslides. All vehicular movement has been stopped on the Hilsa-Simikot road section in Namkha Rural Municipality Ward No. 2 of Humla.
