MP Purna Bahadur Limbu Demands Constitutional Amendment for British Gurkha Soldiers' Citizenship

Kathmandu. Shram Sanskriti Party MP Purna Bahadur Limbu has demanded a constitutional amendment to ensure the continuity of Nepali citizenship for British Gurkha soldiers and their descendants.

Speaking during a special time in Thursday's House of Representatives meeting, MP Limbu made this demand.

MP Limbu recalled that for the past two decades, British Gurkha soldiers and their descendants have been campaigning for the continuity of Nepali citizenship. In the context of the government preparing to move forward with the constitutional amendment process, he drew the government's attention to adding necessary sub-sections to Article 14 of the constitution to arrange for the continuation of citizenship by descent for Gurkha soldiers and their children.

He said, “I strongly demand that the government ensure the natural rights of British Gurkha soldiers and their children in the constitution.”

MP Limbu also urged for effective diplomatic initiatives to resolve the problems of ex-servicemen who have been protesting for years demanding equal pension and other service facilities. He emphasized that the government should be more active in talks and diplomatic dialogue with the British government.
