Over 82,000 Nepalis Register on Consular Service Portal from West Asia Amid Regional Tensions

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that 82,100 Nepali citizens from West Asia have registered their details on the Consular Service Department's online registration system so far.

Ministry Spokesperson Lok Bahadur Chhetri provided this information during a regular press conference held at the ministry on Friday. According to him, among those registered in the online system, about 6,000 initially reported feeling unsafe. However, he claimed that the number of those feeling insecure has significantly decreased in recent days.

Chhetri mentioned that amid rising tensions between Israel, the US, and Iran, the ministry's emergency room has received a total of 170 contacts, including 78 calls, from various countries in West Asia. He informed that since the situation is normalizing, most contacts are seeking information regarding labor permits. He also shared that the ministry is continuously gathering information on the status of Nepalis in distress through all ten of its missions and coordinating as necessary. During the briefing, Spokesperson Chhetri confirmed that no Nepali citizens are currently in transit abroad. He added that the 52 Hajj pilgrims who were in Jeddah have also returned home.

He assured that the government is serious about the safety of Nepali citizens in the Middle East and is prepared for rescue operations if necessary.
