CPN-UML Candidates Lose Deposits in Three Constituencies of Morang in House of Representatives Election

Biratnagar. Candidates from CPN-UML have lost their deposits in Morang constituencies 4, 5, and 6 in the House of Representatives elections. Out of the six constituencies in Morang, the deposit of CPN-UML has been forfeited in all three constituencies where results have been announced so far.

In Morang-4, Swatantra Party's Santosh Rajbanshi won with 40,833 votes, while in constituency number 6, Rubina Acharya from the same party won with 55,513 votes, and in constituency no. 5, Asha Jha of the same party won with 30,434 votes.

Nepali Congress candidates were the main rivals in all three constituencies. While Opendra Ray of the CPN (Communist Party) lost his deposit in Morang-6, CPN-UML candidates Jeevan Ghimire in Morang-4, Manoj Agarwal in Morang-5, and Binod Dhakal in Morang-6 all forfeited their deposits.

To secure the deposit, a candidate must secure 10 percent of the total valid votes. In Morang-4, the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Guru Raj Ghimire, came third with 12,818 votes, while Amanlal Modi of CPN received 10,762 votes. Ghimire and Modi secured their deposits.

However, CPN-UML's Jeevan received only 6,933 votes from the same constituency, and his deposit was not secured. In Morang-4, out of 79,775 votes cast, 74,519 were valid, and 5,256 votes were rejected.

In Morang-6, Dr. Shekhar Koirala of the Nepali Congress received 12,850 votes. Only Koirala's deposit was secured in constituency number 6. CPN-UML's Dhakal, who came third with 8,317 votes, did not secure his deposit. Along with CPN-UML, the deposits of 15 candidates, including Opendra Ray of CPN, were forfeited.

In Morang-6, 89,847 votes were cast. Out of the votes cast, 85,233 were valid and 4,616 were rejected. Similarly, in Morang-5, where 78,529 votes were cast, 70,560 votes were valid, and 7,969 votes were rejected. In that constituency, Fullkumar Lalwani of the Nepali Congress was the closest rival with 9,415 votes.

Likewise, Rajkumar Yadav of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal received 8,747 votes, and Shivkumar Mandal of the CPN (Communist Party) received 8,614 votes. Although their deposits were secured, CPN-UML's Manojkumar Agarwal only received 6,945 votes, so his deposit was not secured.

Yogendra Mandal of the Rastriya Urja-shil Party, who won the election as an independent candidate from that constituency in the previous election, received 4,199 votes. His deposit was also forfeited.
