Kathmandu Metropolitan City to Implement Urban Planning and Improve Public Services

Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City will bring into implementation periodic, strategic and sectoral plans under urban planning. The policy and program publicized on Sunday mentions that Kathmandu Metropolitan will review the agreement with the concerned parties for necessary improvement by conducting a detailed study of projects operated in public-private partnership.

The policy and program states, 'Prioritizing the right of Kathmandu residents to clean drinking water, coordination and cooperation will be done with the concerned bodies for easy, accessible and quality water distribution. The concept of free drinking water and public toilets will be continued by constructing drinking water booths and public toilets in more places.'

Similarly, information and details related to disaster management will be linked to the geographical information system. It is mentioned that the monsoon pre-disaster preparedness and response plan will be approved and implemented for monsoon-related disaster risk reduction. Necessary preparedness and response for weather-related disasters will be prioritized.

The Metropolitan City has also informed that disaster safety standards for schools, hospitals, hotels, shopping malls, public buildings and multipurpose structures will be formulated and their effective implementation, supervision and regular safety testing programs will be brought into operation.
