Kathmandu Valley Mayors' Forum Forms Committee for Scientific Waste Management Study

Kathmandu. The 13th meeting of the Kathmandu Valley Mayors' Forum has decided to form a study and coordination committee for the scientific and sustainable management of waste.

The meeting, chaired by Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor and Forum Chairman Chiribabu Maharjan, announced that it will study waste management methods and technologies to advance coordination, facilitation, and collective management among local levels.

The meeting also decided to review previous study reports to make public transportation operation sustainable and collaborate with the Government of Nepal in an appropriate framework. Acting Chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, stated the necessity of developing a transportation system suitable for the Valley's geography, cultural characteristics, and settlement structure.

An agreement was also reached to prepare a master plan by enacting laws regarding the cycle lane from Godavari to Budhanilkantha and to collaborate with the federal government on infrastructure development.

The Forum committed to moving forward in a coordinated manner to solve borderless problems such as waste management, public transportation, drinking water, river conservation, food hygiene, disaster management, and climate change.
