Bagmati Cleanup Campaign Enters 689th Week

Kathmandu. With the slogan 'Two hours of volunteer service for the nation', the Bagmati cleanup mega-campaign, which started 13 years ago, has entered its 689th week. In the 689th week of the mega-campaign, the Bagmati river bank in the Sinamangal area was cleaned today.

Approximately three metric tons of non-degradable waste were collected from the river bank in that area, informed campaign activist Kishorsingh Shahi. According to him, the non-degradable waste collected during the cleanup was managed in coordination with the Environment Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Teku.

He stated that the participation included Dr. Anandasingh Bhat, Chairman of the Empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, Megh Ale, Chairman of the River Conservation Organization, employees of the Empowered Bagmati Committee, and Bagmati cleanup campaigners.

The cleanup mega-campaign has informed that the cleanup program for next week, Saturday, July 16, will be held on the Bagmati river bank below the Guheshwori Water Treatment Center. The Bagmati cleanup campaign started on May 5, 2070 BS. Since its inception, this campaign has been continuing every Saturday.

The cleanup campaign has not stopped even on Saturdays falling on days like heavy rain, heat, cold, earthquake, Corona pandemic, Dashain, Tihar festivals. Inspired by this campaign, cleanup campaigns have also started in all the tributaries of the Bagmati in the Kathmandu Valley.

Cleanup campaigns have also started in major cities and river civilization areas outside the Kathmandu Valley. Currently, cleanup campaigns are running weekly on Saturdays in more than 108 places across the country. The Bagmati cleanup mega-campaign has spread cleanup awareness nationwide.
