Agriculture Minister Gita Chaudhary Announces Model Program for 10 Municipalities

Kathmandu. Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Gita Chaudhary has stated that at least 10 municipalities will be selected as model programs and implemented, prioritizing agricultural research, technology transfer, and organic farming, to directly deliver services to the farmers' fields.

Addressing a courtesy meeting with the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Krishna Prasad Yadav, and a high-level meeting regarding federal-provincial coordination, Minister Chaudhary said that at least 10 municipalities should be selected. She stated that there is a plan to implement a model agricultural program in those municipalities. 

Minister Chaudhary emphasized the need to give special priority to the implementation aspect rather than policy formulation. She informed that an integrated program will be operated in at least 10 municipalities to deliver research results to the farmers' fields, increase agricultural production, and provide direct information about modern technology to the farmers. According to her, special emphasis will be given to production increase, technical services, training, consultation, and technology transfer in those municipalities.

Minister Chaudhary mentioned that the government is committed to protecting soil fertility, producing safe food, and developing a sustainable agricultural system by prioritizing organic farming.

She emphasized the need to move forward through effective coordination between the federal, provincial, and local levels, proper mobilization of resources, and joint planning for the sustainable development of the agriculture, forest, and environment sectors. She also expressed a commitment that the federal government will prioritize addressing the suggestions received from the provincial government.
