RSP engages in legal discussions over Rai Lamichhane's MP suspension
Kathmandu, December 24 — The Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is engaged in legal discussions regarding the suspension of its president Rabi Lamichhane as federal MP.
RSP's acting spokesperson, Manish Jha, informed that the party's legal committee, led by Member of Parliament (MP) Sobita Gautam, is studying the legal provisions. While decisions will be made after completing the study, no final decision has been made as of now.
On Sunday, a case was filed against Lamichhane in the Kaski District Court on charges of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering.
After the case was filed, the Kaski police sent a letter to the Federal Parliament Secretariat requesting the suspension of Lamichhane's parliamentary membership under Section 27 of The Assets (Money) Laundering Prevention Act, 2008.
Based on this letter, the Parliament Secretariat issued a notice on Monday suspending Lamichhane's membership. Earlier, RSP MPs had requested the Speaker of the House, Devraj Ghimire, not to suspend Lamichhane's membership.
"Our legal department, led by Honorable Sobita Gautam, is handling this responsibility," said leader Jha. "However, our current priority is the ongoing statement and debate involving our president."
