Jhalanath Khanal expresses dissatisfaction over Unified Socialist leadership division

Kathmandu, December 24 — Senior leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist), Jhalanath Khanal, has expressed dissatisfaction with the recent division of responsibilities among the party's central leaders.

According to a politburo member, Khanal voiced his displeasure about the division of work within his secretariat group during a discussion with party leaders and cadres. Khanal himself mentioned that there were many issues he found unsatisfactory regarding the division of roles.

"I have been resting for the past 15 days on the advice of my doctor, as part of my ongoing treatment. Due to this, I was unable to attend the party’s standing committee meeting this time. Even after six months, the meeting was held at the same time. I don't know what the agenda was, what discussions took place, or what conclusions were drawn," Khanal wrote.

He also noted that many party leaders and cadres have expressed strong dissatisfaction about the work division. However, he said he has not received detailed information regarding the standing committee's decision.

"Work division has taken place during this period, and there is significant dissatisfaction about it," Khanal added, recalling that after the party's 10th General Convention, he had sent proposals about the tasks that needed to be addressed.

"I do not know what decisions the standing committee has made. The party passed socialist programs and policies as the goal of revolution at the congress, but now we need concrete action plans to translate those into practice, and steer the party in the direction of building a base of the people and struggles," Khanal said.

He emphasized that responsibilities should be assigned based on the abilities and qualifications of central committee members, and that the party needs to be united and move forward.

"This is what the standing committee should be doing. But what has been done or happened, I don’t understand. I will understand and speak only when I know more. When I looked at the work division, I was also dissatisfied with many things. I will look into it, and then share my thoughts," Khanal said.

Khanal’s secretariat group includes Chairman Madhav Nepal, most secretariat members, politburo members, and central committee members.

Last Friday, after the standing committee meeting, Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal made the division of responsibilities for all central committee leaders.
