Local levels without fire trucks in face of high risk of fire
Jitpur, Kapilvastu - Seven local levels in Kapilvastu district do not have fire engines and have to depend on other municipalities in case of emergencies.
These local levels are facing difficulties tending fires whenever they break out in their localities, especially during this time of the year when incidents of fire are frequent.
Only three municipalities out of the 10 local levels in the district have fire engines. Rest three municipalities and four rural municipalities are without fire engine.
The need of fire trucks has been direly felt as the risk of fire incidents increases with the start of the hot dry season in March and April. Incidents of infernos are common in the district every year resulting in the loss of property worth millions of rupees, sometimes also resulting in human casualties.
Only the Banganga, Krishnanagar and Kapilvastu municipalities have fire engines. The district inhabited by more than 600 thousand people in 93 thousand households has just three fire engines.
More than 450 houses and sheds were destroyed and over six people killed by fire in the district last year alone.
