Public education should be made socialism-oriented: Minister Pokharel

Kathmandu–Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Girirajmani Pokharel, has said that public education should be socialism-oriented as the constitution has mentioned to take the country towards socialism.

At a seminar organised by Education Journalists' Group and National Youth Council here today, Minister Pokharel said that now the education would be socialism-oriented as production oriented education was the need of hour.

Stressing that education of the country should be reformed by transforming the public education into socialism-oriented one along with skill, he said that the time from 2076 to 2085 should be taken as the period of educational reform by removing all evils and anomalies seen in education sector.

The Education Minister expressed the view that educational system suitable for the country should be brought into practice.

He further said that the draft of the education policy has reached final phase and all bills related to education would be brought till the monsoon session.

Presenting the working paper on 'Concept, Basis and Future of Socialism Education in Nepal' Executive Vice-Chair of the National Youth Council, Madhav Dhungel, pointed out the need of transformation in existing education.

Leader of the Nepal Communist Party, Dr Gangalal Tuladhar and lawmaker Badri Pandey said that production-oriented, creative and entrepreneurship promotion education was the need of hour.

Similarly, educationists Prof Dr Bidyanath Koirala and Man Prasad Wagle, former president of Nepal Student Union, Gururaj Ghimire, and Chairperson of All Nepal National Independent Union (Revolutionary), Lekhnath Neupane, also expressed their views.
