5 temporary teachers held

Kathmandu– Police have arrested 15 temporary teachers from Maitighar Mandala today. Police arrested the temporary teachers as they were making preparation to stage a sit-in at the place.

They were held since Maitighar Mandala has been declared as prohibited zone for holding protests, police said. The temporary teachers appointed after September 19, 2015, who were not included in the internal competition held by Teachers Service Commission in July 2018, have been launching agitation, demanding guarantee of their job. State 3 Coordinator of Temporary Teachers Struggle Committee, Bahadur Singh Lama, alleged that police arrested the temporary teachers at a time when they were launching peaceful agitation.

Chairperson of Nepal Teachers Federation, Baburam Thapa, said that it was not necessary to launch separate agitation as they have been holding discussion with the government to make environment for including the temporary teachers in the competitive examination in the new federal education act.
