Suspended Director General convicted in National Payment Gateway Scam; Eight others acquitted

KATHMANDU: Sunil Poudel, the suspended Director General, has been convicted in the National Payment Gateway Scam.

Chairman Tek Narayan Kuwar and Judge Murari Babu Shrestha of the Special Court declared Poudel guilty in the case.

However, the sentence for Poudel is yet to be announced.

The Special Court found Poudel guilty of corruption related to the procurement of software and hardware worth Rs 232,758,000 for the establishment of the National Payment Gateway system.

Despite this investment, Poudel failed to implement the system during his tenure at the National Information Technology Center.

In a twist, eight others implicated in the same case have been acquitted.

Sanjay Sharma, Pranita Upadaya, Ramesh Pokharel, Ram Bahadur Buda, Nim Bahadur Oli, Ram Sharan Gayak, Safal Shrestha, and Madhu Kumar Marasini have been granted a clean chit by the court.
