Congress Deputy President Bishwa Prakash Sharma Clarifies Party's Stance on Provincial Government Reconfigurations

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress Deputy President Bishwa Prakash Sharma has clarified that Congress's bottom line regarding provincial government reconfigurations is not to have a province without an opposition. "As provincial governments are being formed and reconfigured, we want to reach a conclusion without envisioning a province without an opposition," said Deputy President Sharma. "If necessary for that, Congress is also ready to sit in the opposition, but we do not say that all parties must be in government against the psychology of the citizens." 

He also stated that efforts are being made to resolve this issue through dialogue. "We will reach a conclusion regarding provincial governments through the coexistence of all parties, not just Congress," Sharma said.  

Speaking at a press conference organized at the party office on Monday, Deputy President Sharma stated that the fundamental spirit of the constitution also does not envision a province without an opposition. 

"Some problems have arisen among the parties in the provincial governments," said Deputy President Sharma. "Rather than making many public comments on this issue, internal dialogues are ongoing."

He stated that Congress's bottom line is clear regarding provincial government reconfigurations. "Our bottom line is that no provincial assembly should be without an opposition," said Deputy President Sharma. "Therefore, the parties that played a significant role while drafting the current constitution cannot violate the fundamental spirit of the constitution at a time when discussions and dialogues for constitutional amendment are ongoing."
