105 Deaths in Chitwan Road Accidents Over Past Year

Chitwan. 105 people have died in road accidents in the district in the past one year. 545 accidents occurred in various places in the district. The number of accidents and deaths has decreased compared to the previous fiscal year.

999 people were injured in these accidents. During this period, 137 vehicle accidents occurred on the East-West Highway. 34 people died in these accidents, and 214 people were injured. Similarly, 10 people died and 180 were injured in 48 accidents on the Narayangadh-Muglin road section. Six people died in 22 accidents on the Prithvi Highway. 62 people were injured.

According to the Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Police Inspector Anil Thapa, 14 people died in 55 accidents on urban road sections. 73 people were injured in those accidents. 41 people died in 283 accidents on other internal roads, while 470 were injured. He stated that 97 people were seriously injured and 902 were minorly injured in the last fiscal year.

In the fiscal year 2081-082, 120 people lost their lives in vehicle accidents on various roads in the district. Vehicle accidents have also decreased. In that fiscal year, 1,050 accidents occurred, and 1,877 people were injured. Among them, 172 were seriously injured. It has been found that most of the accidents in the last fiscal year were due to high speed. According to the office's data, 38 percent of accidents were caused by high speed, while 22 percent were due to driver negligence. Similarly, 17 percent were due to the road (road user), he said.

Two-wheeled vehicles were involved in a large number of accidents in the district. 52 people died in accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles. Eight pedestrians were hit by vehicles and died. Similarly, eight people died from collisions with jeeps and cars, eight from tempo accidents, seven from human power, five in bus accidents, three from truck and tanker accidents, one from microbus accidents, and three from unidentified vehicles, according to the office's data.

According to the office's data, 209 accidents occurred due to high speed in the last fiscal year. 121 accidents were due to driver negligence. Similarly, 97 were due to passengers, 35 due to drunk driving, 28 during overtaking, 35 due to the road, eight due to mechanical problems, six due to weather, three due to livestock, and three due to other reasons. According to Chief Thapa, accidents in the district occurred more during the evening and night. In the last fiscal year, 214 accidents occurred between 6 PM and 12 AM. Similarly, 156 accidents occurred between 12 PM and 6 PM, 124 between 6 AM and 12 PM, and 51 between 12 AM and 6 AM.

The office took action against 10,080 vehicle drivers in one year. Among them, 1,379 were under the influence of alcohol, and 100 were under the influence of drugs. Others were those who did not follow traffic rules. Revenue of Rs 17,577,503 was collected from them.
