Weather Forecast: Partly Cloudy with Thunderstorms and Rain Expected Across Nepal

Kathmandu. The weather in major cities across the country is expected to be mostly cloudy today, Saturday. According to the forecast from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in most cities this afternoon. With clouds expected throughout the day and rain in most parts of the country, a state of caution is advised.

In the afternoon, some districts in the Terai region will experience heat. The maximum temperature in Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj is estimated to reach 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, while in Dipayal, it will be between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius. Despite the heat, the possibility of rain in these areas in the afternoon is only around 20 to 40 percent.

Places with a high probability of rain this afternoon include Dadeldhura, Pokhara, and Taplejung. These cities have a 60 percent chance of rain, with forecasts predicting moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The weather in Kathmandu, the federal capital of the country, will also not be bright today. Kathmandu will experience moderate rain with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms and lightning in both the afternoon and night. Kathmandu's maximum temperature today will be between 24 to 26 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature at night will drop to 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.

In the Himalayan and high hilly districts, the maximum temperature in Jumla and Jomsom during the afternoon will be 17-19 and 16-18 degrees Celsius, respectively. At night, the weather in some cities of the country will clear up. Dipayal, Dhangadhi, Birendranagar, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi, Biratnagar, and Dharan have a zero percent chance of rain at night.

These places will generally experience only clouds or 'partly cloudy' conditions. However, in cities like Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Simara, Kathmandu, and Jiri, the rain will continue into the night. Specifically, Pokhara and Jomsom have a 60 percent chance of rain even at night.

Compared to the rest of the country, Jumla and Jomsom will be the coldest today, with the minimum temperature at night predicted to drop to 9 to 11 degrees Celsius.
