Leader Jhankri arrested


Central committee member of the NCP led by Prachanda-Nepal faction, Ram Kumari Jhankri, has been arrested in allegation of ‘crime against state’. 

A team of Metropolitan Crime Control Division held her from her residence at Ward No-31 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City today. She had been criticized for her speech on President during a programme in Gorkha district. The police held her to investigate in this connection. 

Chief of the Division, Senior Superintendent of Police Dipak Thapa, informed that arrest warrant was issued against Jhankri mentioning Section 58 of Criminal Code.

The Section 58 has the provision that President and parliament can not be threatened. 

Anyone found guilty as per this provision faces jail term of seven years or is fined Rs 70,000.

Previously, All Nepal Women Association, a sister wing of ruling NCP, had submitted a memorandum to the government, demanding action against leader Jhankri.

Jhankri’s supporters and well-wishers had chanted slogan against her arrest. Before the arrest, leader Jhankri argued she was adhering to the law.
