Kathmandu Valley River Corridor Roads Degraded

Kathmandu. Roads in the river corridor areas of Kathmandu Valley have been dilapidated for years.

In Lalitpur, the area of Dhobi Ghat and Kalopul on the Bagmati corridor experiences recurring problems every year during the monsoon season due to waterlogging, drainage, and mud, causing great difficulty in commuting.

Locals say this road condition has remained the same for a long time. 'It's been 10 years, this road has been like this since I've seen it,' expressed a local with frustration.

Some sections have not been blacktopped yet. On top of that, the continuous movement of heavy vehicles has further damaged the road. 'If the river swells, water enters our homes,' complain locals.

The dilapidated condition of these corridors, which are used as alternative routes to the main roads of the valley, forces the general public, local residents, and drivers to suffer daily.
