Nepal Electricity Authority Leadership Inspects Eastern Nepal Power Infrastructure

Kathmandu. The high leadership of the Nepal Electricity Authority has started field inspection of the electricity infrastructure and distribution system in Morang and Sunsari to ensure quality, reliable, and regular electricity supply in eastern Nepal.

Following public complaints about frequent power outages and flickering lights in the eastern region including Biratnagar, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, had directed the authority's leadership to take necessary steps to resolve the problem immediately.

As per the directive, a team including the acting executive director of the authority, Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, and deputy executive director Rajan Dhakal, who also heads the Distribution and Customer Service Directorate, has reached the eastern region for inspection, the private secretariat of Minister Shrestha informed today.

The high leadership of the authority has discussed the current state of electricity supply, problems, and solutions with the provincial office chiefs and distribution branch chiefs of Morang, Sunsari, and other districts. The authority stated that necessary directives have been given to make service delivery effective in a coordination meeting held at the provincial office with 24 office and center chiefs.

The team inspected the transformer repair workshop and observed the condition of the Duhabi Substation under the Duhabi Grid Division, directing to expedite necessary preparations.

Similarly, clear work orders have been given to employees and the construction company to complete the construction of the 132 KV substation at Barju in Sunsari within three months. The authority stated that directives have been given to advance the construction work by creating a work schedule with the target of completing the Kerung substation in Morang within one month.

Both substations are strategically important, and employees have been instructed to provide necessary coordination and facilitation. The contractor companies have also been instructed to deploy adequate labor, informed Minister Shrestha's private secretariat.

According to the authority, the inspection of other projects, provincial offices, and distribution branches operating in the eastern region is also ongoing. The authority stated that employees have been encouraged to work with necessary coordination, facilitation, and responsibility to make the electricity service more reliable, quality, and sustainable.
