Ministry Discusses Legal Framework for IVF Services in Nepal

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene has held necessary legal and policy discussions to make in-vitro fertilization (IVF) services in Nepal safe, quality, and organized.

In the discussion held at the ministry on Friday in the presence of Minister of Health and Food Hygiene Nisha Mehta, a detailed review was conducted on the current status, infrastructure, service standards, and regulation of IVF services operating in Nepal.

The discussion focused on preparing a work procedure related to IVF operation for effective regulation of IVF services and on enacting a separate law to bring IVF services within the legal framework in the long term.

Minister Mehta stated that a clear legal arrangement is necessary to ensure the safety of service recipients, quality of treatment, and ethical practice in sensitive areas like reproductive health. She mentioned that the ministry is committed to expanding access to safe and responsible reproductive health services by preventing potential irregularities in IVF services.

The meeting also discussed making the minimum standards required for service operation, the monitoring system, and the permission process more organized.
