Prachanda: Nepali Communist Party Prioritizes Movement Over Government

Kathmandu. CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has clarified that the party does not need to form a government. Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Friday on the occasion of Pushpalal Memorial Day on the topic 'Role of Leftist Parties in the Current Political Situation', he said so. He said that a compulsion arose for the CPN due to the conflict between Congress and UML in the provincial governments during the budget formation. The CPN will think about forming a government only after the provincial and local level elections of 2084 BS, he said, urging Congress and UML to continue running the government. He commented that years have passed in cooperation with other parties in the past and the citizens have also been confused by the same thing. He said that making a common minimum program and going to the movement are the priorities of the CPN.

Speaking at the program, Dahal said, 'We have spent our days in cooperation with Congress, sometimes with UML, sometimes with Madhesi. The public has also been confused by the same.' He added, 'The government is not the main thing right now. Making a common minimum program and going to the movement is the main thing for us. Therefore, our focus is not on the government.'

Speaking about the provincial government, he said, 'We have a problem now, this problem of provincial government. We have been saying from the beginning that Congress and UML governments are in all provinces, you run them, we don't need them, but during this budget, such a conflict arose between Congress and UML that the budget could not be passed.' Claiming that a compulsion arose after the budget got stuck, he said, 'We also had to pay attention because the province should not be ruined.'

Reiterating his priority, he said, 'I want to say again, we do not need the government right now. The priority of the Nepali Communist Party is not the government at all. Movement for national independence and the rights of the people is the need of the hour.' He said that he does not agree that leftist cooperation will only happen if they are in government. However, he said that the CPN is ready to help untangle the knot if there is a knot in the province, constitution, and politics.
