Flood Forecasting Division: Major Rivers Below Alert Level, Moderate Risk in Small Rivers

Kathmandu. According to the flood forecasting bulletin issued by the Flood Forecasting Division at 8 AM on Thursday, the water level in the country's major rivers is below the alert level. According to the division, as of Thursday morning's measurement, the flow in Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, and Mahakali rivers along with their tributaries is normal. Similarly, the water level in Kankai, Kamala, Babai, East Rapti, and West Rapti rivers is also below the alert level.

Although the situation in the major rivers is normal, there is a moderate risk of flash floods in small rivers and streams flowing through 28 districts of the country. According to the division, the flow is likely to increase significantly in small rivers flowing through Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Kavrepalanchok, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur today.  

The flow may also increase in small rivers in Makwanpur, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Lamjung, Kaski, Tanahu, Syangja, Parbat, Baglung, and Myagdi. The division stated that there is a moderate risk of flash floods with a significant increase in flow in small rivers flowing through Mugu, Surkhet, Dailekh, Achham, Doti, and surrounding districts.

With the change in weather, it is forecasted that the water level in some small rivers flowing through Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces may increase suddenly on Friday. Similarly, the division has stated that the flow may increase suddenly in some small rivers flowing through Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces on Saturday.

The division has requested residents living in coastal areas and on the banks of small rivers to take necessary precautions.
