Congress Deputy President Sharma: Government and Opposition Must Unite to Combat Societal Despair

Kathmandu.  Nepali Congress Deputy President Bishwaprakash Sharma has stated that there is no alternative to the government and the opposition moving forward together to alleviate the growing despair in society.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Tuesday to release the books 'Buddha, BP ra Aaja ka Neta' and 'Liliputka Laghumanav' written by party leader Guru Ghimire, he said this.  

He emphasized the need for the government and the opposition to work together to find solutions to serious incidents like self-immolation, rather than making them subjects of political accusations and counter-accusations. He stated that the party is serious about viewing Ganesh Nepali's self-immolation incident as a matter of human sensitivity, not as a subject of political debate or blame.  

Recalling the previous incident of Prem Acharya's self-immolation, he expressed concern that the public's dissatisfaction and despair have not yet decreased. Speaking at the program, Deputy President Sharma said, ‘A few days ago, the incident of Ganesh Nepali's self-immolation occurred. Some thought that after Ganesh Nepali's self-immolation, the Nepali Congress party would forcefully raise it as an issue to corner the government.’

Recalling past incidents, he added, ‘But we thought, Prem Acharya committed self-immolation during the time of the old parties, during our time, even though the friend of the newly formed party was the Home Minister. He committed self-immolation at that very time.’

Speaking about the seriousness of public dissatisfaction, he said, ‘Why did that happen yesterday? Why is it happening again today? Why were citizens dissatisfied with us yesterday? Why is despair increasing again now?’

He further added, ‘Therefore, this is not a matter of one blaming the other. This is something to be thought about seriously: why is this kind of serious despair spreading in Nepali society? To combat this despair, the government and the opposition, all of us, must stand together.’

Deputy President Sharma emphasized that social despair has not decreased from the time of the old political parties to the time of the so-called new political parties, and stressed that the government and the opposition must stand together to combat it.
